The white lines that form a irregular pattern on the hair not only represents the culture of adding accessories to the hair but also symbolises the way society attempts to control the way afro hair is presented to the world. This is something that is often experienced by black woman the office and sadly, women are compelled to have more conservative styles that are considered “appropriate” for the workplace.

Hence, this piece empowers women to be bold, fully embrace and therefore, boldly wear their natural hair in various social and professional settings.

The original has been completed using a range of purple, black and white acrylic paint on white card sized 42 x 29.7cm.
