Dawn's Light

Dawn’s Light is a very special piece that represents the importance of seeing the light in the darkness. For artist Nicole, this piece highlights the necessity to remain positive, hopeful and optimistic in times of uncertainty, adversity or difficulty.

To convey this, Nicole used various layers painted in different shades of grey to create a unique effect that makes this piece appear 3-dimensional. This is complimented by the highest points in the piece being painted the lightest shades of grey with a hint of white, drawing her audience into the centre of the piece. Dawn’s Light is completed with two fine strands of white string placed directly on the black border, a direct contrast which makes the light in the middle of darkness the key focus, and not the other way around.
